FAQs

Who is the tournament intend for?

Anyone 18 years of age or older as of September 29th, 2017.

Can males sign up?

Yep.  The tournament is equal to league play and in ringette league play can very much be co-ed.  The only time gender comes into question is provincials.  Same rules apply for men and women.  Please mention any other experience with sports (hockey for example) in the skill assessment survey.  You will be sorted into teams depending on skill level.  So teams can be equal.  Keep in mind that there is a code of conduct for play and all ringette Canada rules apply.

Do you have to be from Alberta to register?

Nope.  You can be from anywhere to register.  But you will have cover your own trip and travel insurance.  Also your travel to and from the tournament.  We can help you arrange a carpool when you arrive at the hotel, if you would like.  Just e-mail with a request for carpooling.

What is your cancellation policy?

Our refund policy is as follows:

  • Full refund if cancellation is requested prior to August 1, 2016.
  • Partial refund is cancellation is requested between August 1 - September.
  • No refund if cancellation request is made after September 1.

Which level is the tournament?

The tournament is open to all players who are willing to play in a friendly competitive manner. Our focus is to have fun, both on and off the ice.

Fill out the self-tiering form when registering to asses your current and  past playing skills.  After that the draft party takes care of placing you on a team.  Whether you are an active player, returning after pregnancy or a leave, or brand spanking new, this tournament is for you.

So will I be able to play with my friends?

It's all up to the luck of the draw.  You can come with as many friends as you want (and can even stay with them), but when it comes to the team selection everything is determined during the draft night party.

What time does the draft party start?

The doors will open at around 5pm on Friday for registration and the party will kick-off at 7pm, September 29th, 2017.

How does the draft night party work?

This is a mandatory event for all registrants and will be held Friday, September 29th, 2017 at the hotel (the Inns of Banff Hotel).

Essentially, you come and register with us and receive your pool designation (which is based on your self-tiering survey), once the party begins the team captains (the 8 team goalies) will undergo various competitions to determine the order of picking and which skill pool they choose from first.  Eventually, once the teams are all made, they should be even and be composed of 14 players from all skill, age, and geographical locations. Players then get their team jerseys and the team gets to embark on their greatest challenge yet: determining the team name.  After that, it's all smooth sailing.

The draft night will continue with games, competitions, food, and more drinks!

What if I don't drink alcohol?

Then you're in the same boat as me and will have access to an assortment of non-alcoholic beverages and a cash bar that will cater anything else you fancy.  As long as someone on your team drinks the draft competitions will be a go.  Everyone from all walks of adulthood are strongly encouraged to join this tournament so don't worry at all if you don't drink.

Why don't you take cheques/prefer online payment or e-transfer for payment?

Liability.  If a cheque bounces on us, we get charged, which eats into the tournaments budget.  For us online payment or e-transfer is the most easy, most secure, and most effective form of payment is e-transfer.
